If you are working with an architect who is using ArchiCAD it is worth asking them to translate all the drawings with the ' Set all Elements' Colors to "BYLAYER" ' option ticked.
This is located in the Pens and Colors -> Methods panel in the Setting for Selected translator options box.
This entails no extra work for them but makes overlaying their files over ours much, much easier as you don't have to explode everything and mack about changing their colours.
